Milan, Paris, Amsterdam, Warsaw (with a bit of Peru for a while)

Back in Warsaw, still not able to get used to the world around me. The last weeks have been incredible!

I spent the first days of March in Milan with all the people that have been so important to me the last months. A time of goodbyes and trying to make the most of the days left in Daniel’s. I miss already all the people from my floor – Who’s cooking tonight?? Lia, Piotrek, Paulo, having dinners without you isn’t the same anymore:) (so I’m not eating that much which is actually good…:P)

Miguel, I regret a bit that we made it only once to Tropicana, but I’m looking forward to see you in Sevilla or Warsaw (and of course Milan in the meantime).

It would be great to see here Vinicius (favourite movie dealer) and Carlos (it’s just too bad we met so late this semester, I can’t wait to go to a metal concert with you! it was also cool to discover a F1 fan in you:)).

Ana, I’m glad we made up some lost time, I’m wating for you in Warsaw! I had so much fun with you at the last party in Old Fashion:**

HBs – I think a need a separate post to write about them – you guys made my stay in Milan unforgettable!! Marta, Paulo, Esteban – you are wonderfull and life seems to be really weird and empty when you’re not around. Can’t wait to go to Porto and Floripa.

Sebastian. Inspired by the Motorcycle Diaries I’m still planning to travel through South America, see you there and prove to you that the world has no limits and if people care they can really keep in touch. Remember you promised to show me the penguins;) It’s good that most of our converstations even in Daniel’s were on msn, because this way I don’t realize that much that I’m not 2 rooms away from you anymore.

Finally my Polish friends… Madziara (crazy lovely Magda) ) jesteś kochana, bardzo się cieszę, że sie poznałyśmy i że będziemy się widywać w trójmieście i Milano! And Tomek – first Milano mate, I’m glad to have him around back in Warsaw. We’ll be missing Milan together while drinking Martini and eating pasta with pesto.

Last, but not least my Italian friends – Silvia, Claudio and Marco – thank you so much for everything!!! You showed me Milan, took me for my first aperitivo, first good Italian dinner. Silvia, you’re such a good shopping mate ) Marco, thank you for helping me when Rachael was in Milan. I’m glad that I spent my last evening with all of you, I can’t think of a better company for a goodbye with Milano in Cheese. I hope to see you soon!

5-8th of March – Paris with Rachael and Paulo. It was wonderfull to see her and to meet Brice. We had a great time (Petit Prince de Paris – can’t wait to go there again). Now I’m seriously considering moving to Paris for a while after my graduation..:) Tu me manques beaucoup ma cherie!!

Then Amsterdam/Utrecht with Marta, Esteban, Paulo and Lekker Ding. Van Gogh, Smokey, plenty of rain, good food, a nice jazz concert followed by a Dutch mojito and too many heart beats. When the four of us were standing on the platform when Marta and Esteban were going to Berlin I realized that this part of my life is definitly comming to an end.

Back in Milan on the 12th after many adventures. A new friend, globtrotter, Aaron and the mentioned before aperitivo with Silvia, Claudio and Marco. Then packing… 70kg as I found out the next day, although I left many things in Piotrek’s room. Goodbyes with Lia, Miguel and Vinicius. And then with Sebastian. 2 hours of sleep and an I-almost-missed-my-flight experience.

After 5 days Esteban made it to Warsaw! it was really nice to have a friend from Milan in this cold country and to guide him in Warsaw:))

So now… I’m finishing my thesis, this time I really mean it:P I found a new job in Orange, but I’ve changed my mind and decided to leave it till I graduate. I starting to draw again! I found my old sketches and I really feel creative these days I’m also going back to dance classes. Can’t wait to see my Montuno Aye friends!!

Domenica mattina…

pensando en su vida y esperando una señal

Yesterday there was a tragic accident in front of our residence in Milan. The tram I am taking everyday crushed into a bus. 1 woman died, 26 persons are injured, one girl had her leg amputated. It could have been me or any of my friends:( The only reason I didn´t get out of my room at this time was because the elevators were out of order and I was too lazy to walk the stairs. omg…
In moments like this you really want to be close to the people you love. I dialed my father’s number, he didn’t pick up.

I spent the afternoon with Silvias in Triennale. The exposition about the 70´s in Italy was great. I’ll write about it soon…

Can’t wait to be done with the exams. Still so many things I need to see in Milano! And places to visit outside Milano (haven’t been to Firenze yet!). We’re planning a trip to Sicilia or Sardegna, probably in the first week of March, so if anybody wants to join us just let me know…

Valentine’s day most likely in Daniel’s  – also because both elevators are out of order and there’s no way I’m walking the stairs (11th floor, we were doing that yesterday..:)

Got a few new books (no idea how I’m going to bring all that back to Poland). I’m starting with “Corazon tan blanco” by Javier Marias and Murakami’s “Norwegian Wood, Tokyo Blues”.

Forgot to mention that baby Dell finally arrived!! It’s beautiful, red and I can’t get my fingers and eyes off of it. Installing everything from stratch.

Un weekend de carnaval à Venise!!

Venise a toujours été pour moi une ville magique, mais durant le carnaval elle est encore plus incroyable. Deux jours merveilleux en compagnie de deux amis de Daniel’s Palace.

Maria Stuarda

Esta semana hemos visto “Maria Stuarda” en la Scala. Me gustaba mucho.
Un poco de historia…

En abril de 1834, Donizetti firmó contrato con el Teatro San Carlos de Nápoles para componer una nueva ópera basada en el drama de Friedrich von Schiller – Maria Stuardo. Esta pieza teatral presentaba el especial atractivo de enfrentar en escena a las reinas: Maria Stuardo de Escocia e Isabel I de Inglaterra.

”María Stuardo” tuvo un nacimiento bastante accidentado. Fue compuesta en los meses de julio y agosto de 1834, dándose inmediato inicio a los ensayos. Pero en el desarrollo de éstos surgieron serias rencillas entre las cantantes a cargo de las 2 reinas. Los insultos que estos personajes debían proferirse en la escena pasaron al plano de las propias cantantes y eso complicó las cosas, más aun cuando estas artistas llegaron a agredirse físicamente.

Poco después la censura se entrometió en los preparativos y exigió algunos cambios en el libreto. La corte napolitana era muy conservadora y un argumento como el de „Maria Stuardo” parecía inaceptable, con el agravante de que su esposa, la reina María Cristina, era directa descendiente de Maria Stuardo de Escocia. En su último acto, además, la ópera mostraba en escena el sacramento de la confesión, lo cual entonces no era permitido.

De muy mala gana, Donizetti aceptó entonces buscar otro tema de inspiración y se propuso adaptar un nuevo libreto a la música que él ya había compuesto. Se tuvo así una nueva ópera, a la cual se la tituló „Buondelmonte” y fue estrenada sin ningún éxito en el Teatro San Carlos de Nápoles.

Donizetti, sin embargo, se propuso revivir „Maria Stuardo”, previa búsqueda de un lugar para estrenarla. Ese momento llegó 14 meses después, en el Teatro La Scala de Milán, el 30 de diciembre de 1835.

Por ser una ópera con fondo histórico, „María Stuardo” tiene un marco de acción muy preciso. El ańo es 1587, en los últimos días de la vida de Maria Stuardo, y se desarrolla en el Palacio de Westminster de Londres y el Castillo de Fotheringhay, en Northamptonshire, al norte de la capital inglesa.

El encuentro entre las dos reinas en el 2° acto nunca se produjo y es una fantasía ideada por Schiller, aceptada también por el libreto de la ópera.
